Mink Carcass

Hard to say what did in this mink that Button found on our hike today. Though it was positioned under a fallen limb, it's doubtful that played any role in its death. There were no apparent injuries, but my examination was cursory at best. It's been a light winter so far for humans, but who knows what hardships face a hungry mustelid at this time of year?

Coyote on the Move

In keeping with Lars' last blog entry, I thought I'd post this photo recently captured by my motion-detecting camera. Those of us who heard Jonathan Way's fascinating presentation on eastern coywolves during the Trackers Conference in October will likely agree that this coyote sure LOOKS like it's got wolf ancestry.

A Different Kind of Pack Meeting

Lars posts: Tonight was marked by a sudden outburst of howling. I live near the Stow airport and I have been hearing a howling pack of coyotes off and on over the last several weeks. They are usually yipping after dusk and at a distance. Tonight was in my front yard! I ran to grab the camera and began filming as I opened the door. After they quieted down, I could still hear there footsteps in the leaves at the edge of the property.

Blog post from Anthony

A student of mine found this on a beach. It looked like a part of a shell, but it might have been attached to some marine organism. I was stumped. She took it back, but I took these pictures. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks.

Unexpected Eagle Sighting

Not a very clear picture, but noteworthy because it was taken this morning in the parking lot of the Marlboro Target store (the one next to the Solomon Pond Mall). This bald eagle sat in the rain tolerating my presence for two or three minutes before taking off into the wetlands behind its perch.
