This is the best photo of a porcupine I got when I left the camera for
several weeks in a rocky/cliffy area in central MA last fall, when I got
the bobcat photo I posted on 12/1/2012. There was abundant porcupine
sign in the immediate area, including some dens with scat spilling out.

I'd love to see some pics of the porky sign. I've been dying to find some here in Western and Central NY. I was in Alaska this summer and saw plenty of porkys, but no sign.
ReplyDeleteI found a couple shots showing scat, Alyssa, from my last batch of Quabbin porky photos. Will post.
DeleteCheck out an old blog post on porcupine sign here:

I think that's all we have in the old posts in this blog on porky sign. It's as abundant as the grass, at Quabbin where we often track, so we hardly ever photograph it anymore. We used to post on it more often in our old, now defunct, blog.
Ah, I've heard of "The Quabbin" from Nick and Val Wisniewski. I've done a couple of tracking programs with them around Charlemont, MA. I'll check that other posting out, thanks.
